The Unlikely Yogi: What a Yoga Retreat Taught Me About Longevity

I traveled across the Atlantic for a yoga retreat, not because I’m a yogi, but to learn about the retreat business. I had hoped to attend one of Hargobind’s Retreat Wizard Blizzard events, but with none scheduled for the next year, I signed up for his next one at Casa Om Potomac in West Virginia instead.

My goal is to host longevity retreats for seniors to build a co-living community of like-minded people. I was concerned I’d be the oldest participant and the only one not actively practicing yoga, fearing a group of advanced instructors.

To my surprise, I found two people older than me. Over the three days, I discovered that my morning longevity routine has really been working! Despite it being 35 years since my last hot yoga class, I kept up with the group and even surpassed some. I was the only person besides the instructor who could do an L-sit and had the endurance to attend every class, unlike others who skipped a few.

Having a test say you’re strong as a teen is one thing, but doing a hot yoga retreat and keeping up without training is true proof.

My Journey to Proving Longevity

Since I have no medical credentials and my retreat isn’t based on an existing program, everything depends on my personal health results.

I’m not a super-athlete or a cancer survivor. I’m a normal person who was athletic in my youth, let it decline in middle age, and has become serious about health as I approach retirement.While we live 30 years longer than a century ago, the last decade or so is often filled with pain and illness.

 

When I was a teenager, I couldn’t do an American split or an L-sit press, but at 63, I can now. The L-Sit is a seemingly simple move to learn and very difficult to master. It requires the follow: Compression + Core Strength, Tricep Strength, Shoulder Depression, Grip Strength and Leg + Glute Tension. Normally you lose flexibility as you grow older, but that doesn’t have to be the case. This proves I’ve naturally reversed some of my aging without resorting to techno bio-hacking.

 

I left the yoga retreat with more than just a renewed sense of strength—I left with real proof. I am my own case study, and the results are in. My longevity system works! Join me on my journey and discover the secrets to a longer, healthier life.
