Explore the natural beauty of the Azores with Ribeira Grande’s monthly trail walks! For just €12, you get insurance coverage and a convenient snack pack with a banana, an apple, a granola bar, and a bottle of water.

I recently joined the hike for Lomba D’El Rei, following Trail 38. This 4.4 km path features a challenging but rewarding elevation gain of over 200 meters. The group of about 15 hikers trekked from the charming town of Achadinha down to the coast.

The trail led us to the Parque de Merendas da Ribeira Despe-te Que Suas, home to a truly impressive sight: the highest bridge in the Azores. Completed in 2011, this engineering marvel stands 522 feet high and spans 607 feet wide, offering breathtaking views of the landscape.

This trail is a fantastic way to experience the island’s stunning scenery, combining a good workout with unforgettable views. It’s an adventure you won’t want to miss!
